Freshman third baseman Marley Cortez (Gahr HS) singled home a pair of runs to tie the game, while sophomore first baseman Briana Zarate (Legacy HS/Compton College) drove in the eventual winning runs in a four-run sixth inning, as the Cerritos College softball team defeated East Los Angeles College, 6-4. Playing in their final regular season game of the year, the Falcons (29-10, 18-6) will now wait until Sunday to find out where they are seeded for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, with the 1st Round slated for May 2-3.

Trailing, 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Zarate drove home freshman pinch-runner Brianna Bailon (Schurr HS) with two outs. Cortez got things going with a two-out double, while sophomore outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS) drew a walk. Bailon came on to run for Cortez and raced home on the single up the middle by Zarate.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, sophomore shortstop Ayiana Cardenas (Walnut HS) led off with a double. With one out, freshman outfielder Carissa Amaya (El Rancho HS) was hit by a pitch to put a pair of runners on base. Cortez came up with two outs and laced a single up the middle, with both runners coming around to score and tie the game. Fontela loaded the bases with an infield single before Zarate broke the tie with her two-run single.

Freshman Mia Star Miramontes (Sierra Vista HS) got the start in the circle and lasted two innings, where she allowed two runs (one earned) before making way for freshman Tatyana Cortez (La Serna HS). After allowing an RBI double to the first batter she faced in the third inning, Cortez went the rest of the way to earn the win and allowed just one run on three hits the rest of the game.

Marley Cortez finished the game going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Zarate was 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBI.
