Highlighting the two-day Cuesta Invitational was the breaking of a school record, as the Cerritos College women's swimming team finished in 11th place with 176 team points. The Falcons are back in the pool on Friday at 10:00 a.m. when they host Chaffey College in their only meet in their own pool.

On the first day of the invitational, sophomore Sydney Romero (Cerritos HS/Azusa Pacific University) set a new school record in the 200-yard backstroke, as she turned in a time of 2:26.32, which broke the old mark of 2:29.48, which was set in 2015 by Angela Covarrubias at the 2015 state championships. For her efforts, Romero finished in ninth place in the race, but also recorded a pair of second place finishes, as well as a third place finish.

Romero recorded a second place time of 28.11 in the 50-yard butterfly and only beaten by Elleana Ramos of Mt. San Antonio College and her time of 26.77. She also locked down a second place finish in the 100-yard IM with her time of 1:05.42 and held off third place finisher Izzy Montgomery of Santa Monica College, who touched up in 1:05.82. The winning time of 1:00.43 was recorded by Noemi Bravo-Guzman of Allan Hancock College. Romero capped off her solid performance at the invitational with a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, as she was clocked in 1:05.12. Once again, Romero was able to secure the third place finish by beating Annika Pauschek of Cuesta, who's time of 1:05.99 put her in fourth place.

As for sophomore Camila Oliveira (Cerritos HS), her time of 5:25.40  in the 400-yard IM was good enough for fifth place, while she also placed ninth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.89. Romero was a seventh place finisher in the event, as she turned in a time of 1:05.28. Freshman Fiona Glynn (Cerritos HS) led the Falcons in the 50-yard backstroke, as her time of 35.57 put her in 10th place and she also swam the 400-yard IM, with a 13th place time of 6:03.28.

The 200-yard medley foursome of Romero, Valeria Barboza (Paramount HS), Oliveira and Sophia Wainwright (Cerritos HS) recorded a 10th place time of 2:09.40, which was the best finish in any of the relay races.
